Ayhan’s practice includes drafting and prosecuting domestic and international patent applications in the fields of medical devices and mechanical arts, including cardiovascular stents and filters, vascular grafts, catheter systems, drug delivery systems, optical imaging systems, catheter based imaging systems, vacuum deposition processes, and devices used in flood control, electrical construction, and plumbing. Ayhan’s legal experience includes drafting and prosecuting patent applications, drafting appeal briefs, clearance and freedom-to-operate opinions, and infringement opinions, conducting patentability searches and drafting patentability opinions, and conducting due diligence investigations.
Ayhan received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Ayhan’s Master’s research included the experimental measurement of absorption and transfer efficiency of laser sustained plasma in flowing argon. Ayhan’s Ph.D. research involved experimental measurements and a two-temperature nonequilibrium model of laser sustained plasma in flowing hydrogen. Ayhan worked to develop a two-temperature model of a hydrazine arcjet as a post-doctoral research associate at Illinois. After college, Ayhan worked as a validation and test engineer for MTI Technology Corporation, a vendor of fault tolerant RAID information storage systems. Ayhan also worked as an R&D engineer for Ethylene Innovations, a startup company in the field of chemical reactors.
Ayhan received his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School with an Intellectual Property Certificate. During law school, he was a staff member of the Review of Intellectual Property Law (RIPL). Ayhan’s previous work experience includes clerking at an aviation law firm. More recently, Ayhan worked at a Chicago patent law firm where he drafted and prosecuted patent applications, drafted appeal briefs, clearance and freedom-to-operate opinions, and infringement opinions, conducted patentability searches and drafted patentability opinions.
Ayhan is admitted to practice in Illinois, before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and before the United States Patent & Trademark Office.
