Donald J. Silvert, Ph.D.

Dr. Silvert is an attorney specializing in the management and protection of chemical and biotechnology-related assets, with a background in the pharmaceutical and agricultural biotechnology sectors.  He brings to the firm both large firm and in‑house counsel experience, as well as over five years of licensing and marketing/sales experience in leadership positions in the private corporate sector.  Don’s legal experience includes patent preparation and prosecution on all aspects of pharmaceutical and agricultural biotechnology inventions, including small to large molecules, methods for identifying and synthesizing such molecules, and various other biotechnology-related inventions.  Don’s legal experience also includes drafting and negotiating technology-related agreements; developing and managing worldwide patent portfolios; rendering opinions on infringement, validity, and enforceability of patents; due diligence investigations; intellectual asset management; and litigation/interference support and strategy.  Don applies his legal skills to matters concerning consumer products involving the mechanical and/or electrical arts as well.  Combining legal, scientific, and business experience and training, Don provides a unique and helpful perspective that facilitates capturing, managing, and asserting rights in the value created in any company.

 

Don received his bachelor’s degree in Biochemical Science from Princeton University, earned a Ph.D. in Genetics from The University of California at Berkeley, was a post-doctoral fellow in Chemistry and Biology at California Institute of Technology and received his J.D. degree from the New York University School of Law. 

 

Dr. Silvert is admitted to practice in Illinois and New Jersey and before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.  Don has frequently been a speaker at national life sciences symposia and authored several papers in national life sciences publications.
